Every retailer we work with who sells single charts eventually asks what else to put next to them. The answer is usually not another single. It is a set — the same designs, sold as one purchase, which lifts the basket and gives the customer a wall instead of a piece.
Why sets work next to singles
- They share the artwork and the printing process, so the range reads as one brand rather than two.
- A curated set solves the hardest part of buying art — deciding what goes together.
- Sets pack in a single carton, so receiving and storage stay simple even for a one-person shop.
- They sell to a customer singles do not — the gift buyer and the person furnishing a whole room at once.
The margin structure is different
A single chart carries a higher percentage margin; a set carries a higher cash margin per transaction and a slightly lower percentage. That trade is usually worth taking, because a set uses shelf space you have already paid for and turns one decision into four units sold.
The right place for them is the anchor position in the wall group — the set draws the eye, and the singles beside it explain what is inside. They are a destination and an upsell at the same time.
How to open the category without overbuying
- Start with one curated four-piece set and one two-piece set rather than deep stock of five.
- Build sets from designs that already sell as singles — the appeal is proven before you bundle it.
- Watch attachment rate, not just sell-through: the real signal is a customer buying a set and a single in the same order.
- Only then add a second curation, such as an all-astronomy set or an all-philosophy set.
“The set sells at four times the price of a single and we shift almost as many of them. It also brings in people who were never going to pick one chart off the wall.”
